Our Story

About the Owner

Kelly Hunt is a Fredericksburg native, born and raised. Kelly has always had a passion for art but discovered her passion for food as a teenager. Beginning at age 15, she began to work in the hospitality industry. She worked from the ground up and held many positions over the years. With over 30 years of experience under her belt, she decided to open her own restaurant, Mason-Dixon Cafe & Baking Company in 2012.

Mason-Dixon Cafe’s History

Mason-Dixon Cafe was born on a Metro ride to Culinary Arts school in DC one day. The name popped into Kelly’s head, and she wrote it down. Years later, it would become reality. In October 2012, Mason-Dixon Cafe and Baking Company was born. Located in an industrial park just outside of Fredericksburg in a 20-seat restaurant, she was open to serve breakfast, lunch, and baked goods to the local workers. Everything was made in house, just as it is now. The popularity grew quickly, and people began to come from outside of the industrial park. She quickly outgrew the spot.

In June of 2014, the Cafe was relocated to the current Fredericksburg location. We continue to offer scratch made breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Mason-Dixon has continuously been recognized as one of the best restaurants in Fredericksburg, and the region. We have been voted the Best Breakfast and Brunch in Fredericksburg every year since 2015, as well as many other accolades.
